New To The Community?

May 3rd, 2008 by kelly

Because of the Horizons program we now have a welcoming committee. When someone new moves into the community they are delivered baked goods and a flyer with the list of businesses and organizations along with other important information.

The committee consists of five people: Jannell Lagein, Kelly Mitchell, Mavis Carter, Jennifer Hunt, Gary Hunt.

They are still working on the project as they would like a package of local coupons to share with new residents.

Hi, I am from Whitewood, South Dakota, another great Horizons community. We made up a Welcome to the Community Packets that have been successful. The cost was almost nothing ($5.30 for 25) then each business, government organization (post office, school, etc.) and organization added their little notes of welcome. That way the cost was dispersed so much that no one had to pay a big bill. We have gone through the first 25 faster than we thought we would (about 9 weeks) so we are now making up 50 more. Again, everyone is chipping in so the cost is not much to any one. The people at our city hall give out the packets when people get their water turned on. We gave a few to the library for those new residences that on not within the city limits so no water bill but do have children in school so they register for a library card. If you are interested in seeing what we did I could send you a sample. Let me know. email: ponida@rushmore.com
