All children deserve a safe, happy life—including the 513,000 American children in foster care. Young people in foster care especially need nurturing adults on their side because their own families are in crisis and unable to care for them. If you would like to make a difference in the life of a child, consider becoming a foster parent.

Adoptive parents are also needed. Currently there are approximately 1,000 children waiting in Minnesota, North Dakota, and Wisconsin’s foster care system to be adopted. These children are waiting patiently for their “forever family”. If you are a caring, patient and flexible person who has a lifestyle that is welcoming and nurturing for children, consider becoming an adoptive parent.

In the Rock Lake area and throughout the nation, foster and adoptive parents are needed! If you are interested in becoming a foster or adoptive parent, call Towner County Social Services at 701-968-4355, call Kelly Mitchell at 701-477-0525 or visit www.nd.gov.

Great things don’t get done by just wishing and hoping! And who else but US will step up and do what needs to be done? The younger we start participating and volunteering in our local organizations and community, the better the chance that these behaviors will become a central part of who we are and who we become. All organizations and communities need people to help, so start young like these good-lookin’ sisters from Rocklake! Get involved! Step Up! Get THINGS DONE!

Our state is number one in eleven different crops and second in three other crops. You can get cheap food from other places but safe food comes from here. Once the American farmer & rancher is gone they won’t be back, and if you think fuel prices are high, it isn’t nothing compared to what food prices will be!!!!

I attended a grant writing workshop in Devils Lake at the college. It was held on April 23 and sponsored by the NDSU Center for Community vitality. The presenter for the workshop was Dr Lynette Krenelka , director of Distance Degree Programs at UND. Grantwriting seems like a troubling word but when you get a little instruction in the art and some direction from a professional it doesn’t seem quite as scary!!! Dr Krenelka does a very enjoyable presentation and throws humor in when needed so the time seemed to fly by for a day long workshop!! Gayle Gette, Diana Sitz and Jo Rodenbiker also attended the workshop from our area. Grantwriting is no easy task and is very time consuming but if we need money for projects the time and energy may have to be put to the test. How bad do we want it????
